Opus '96 Chamber Choir

Dashed Line
Opus '96 Chamber Choir was formed, as the name suggests, in 1996. They are a Tralee based, four part SATB choir with a total of sixteen members.
The choir was formed with a view to performing all styles and genres of choral music, from early church and madrigals, to modern arrangements of popular songs.
The choir’s main focus is performance based, but they have competed in competition in the past such as the Cork International Choral Festival, the Pan Celtic Festival when it was held in Tralee, and in Llandudno Wales at the Sealink International Choral Festival.
The past few years, however, have seen them stand as Kerry’s premiere chamber choir, performing to large audiences at all their concerts.
Opus '96 have performed annually at the very famous Muckross House and Gardens in Killarney at their Christmas evening for their patrons, since 1998. This is always a memorable evening for both choir and guests with a very seasonal atmosphere in the house and the performance of all the standard Christmas greats as well as some new music from around the world.
The choir have performed with the very well known trio “The Irish Sopranos”, which includes Tralee native Kay Lynch, Wexford lady Deirdre Masterson and Cork lady Wendy Dwyer. Their most recent sell-out concert with them was in October 2010, where they performed a varied programme of all styles of music, some of which can be heard in video clips on this web site.
The choir have also recently performed at the Liam Lawton concert which was held in St John’s Parish Church Tralee in February 2011.
In May 2010, Opus ‘96 travelled to Stockport near Manchester in England to perform with the famous “Tideswell Male Voice Choir”. Here the choir was received with glowing praise and applause and have been invited back to do a series of concerts with Tideswell in 2012.
All the members of Opus ‘96 are experienced choral singers, many of whom perform with multiple choirs in the Kerry area.
They are directed by Martina Egan and Renee Fitzgibbon. Martina is a music teacher with the Yamaha School of Music, Tralee and is also director of The Ardfert Ladies Gospel Choir, St Brendan’s Parish Choir and Mercy Mounthawk Secondary School Choir.
Renee is a very well known and respected music teacher in Tralee and has also worked with the Ardfert Ladies Gospel Choir as accompanist as well as accompanist to many other groups.
Opus ‘96 would be delighted to perform for you with a varied and entertaining programme of music to engage and please your audience. They also perform at weddings with a large programme of sacred music to enhance that special day. They are the perfect choir for your corporate function as there are only sixteen members producing a big sound but taking up little space!
We hope you enjoy some of the samples of our music, and look forward to hearing from you.
